Oakgrove Community Centre News Letter Term 1 2018 


Welcome back as we begin 2018.  A special welcome to all of our new families who are joining Oakgrove for the first time, we are sure that you will thoroughly enjoy being part of our Community.
We hope that all families have enjoyed your summer holiday break and excited to start another year filled with new adventures.
We had a smooth start at Kinder and Playgroup as we began Term 1 last week with most of the children having settled in quite well. Well done parents!
We run playgroup on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9.30am to 11.30am and currently have spots available only for a Thursday group. The sessions are facilitated by Jenny, qualified Early Learning Educator and suitable for all those who might want their children to socialise while mums/carers develop new friendships.

Quick Snapshot of 2017

  • We had a very successful AGM on Thursday, 16 March with new office bearers being elected. 
  • The Committee and Staff welcomed all existing and new families to our Open Day held on Friday, 24 March. This was a great successful family event with lots of entertainment for the children.
  • Our Pre-Kinder Photo fundraiser day was a huge success on Saturday, 22 April and we had a lot of our beautiful families posing for the photos. Thank you Susan for organising the fundraising event.
  • For the very first time, our Pre-Kinder and Playgroup families came together for an exciting Mother’s day Afternoon Tea on Friday, 12 May.  “Thank you” to Baker’s Delight for your support.
  • The Pre-Kinder Trivia Night Fundraiser on Saturday, 19th August was a great fun filled evening with money raised to support the purchase of a new kitchen set in the Pre-Kinder room.
  • Oakgrove Staff invited our Pre-Kinder and Playgroup families for an exciting Morning Tea for Father’s Day on Wednesday, 30 August. This was a massive treat for the children who enjoyed spending quality time with their Dads.  “Thank you” to Daniel from Soccer Time Kids who kept the children, as well as the Dads, entertained.
  • As part of City of Casey’s Ageing positively festival, the Senior’s Day event was held on Tuesday, 24 October with seniors participating in Line Dancing, High Flow Acrylic Painting, Hand Massage and a yummy lunch.
  • Shopping Tour organised on Saturday, 28 October was an exciting day. It provided a great opportunity for lot of mums to come together and meet new friends, while enjoying shopping at a great bargain. 
  • School Holiday programs were busy with children participating in the Okie Dokie Disco, High Flow acrylic painting, Hula Hoop and Cake Decorating programs.
  • The year ended with a fun filled Celebration for all existing and new families on Friday, 15 December. This was a great successful family event with lots of food, entertainment and games for the children.

 Thank you Rosa, Gina and all staff & volunteers for organising this fantastic event.

A very big "thank you" goes to all parents who have participated and supported us throughout the year.

Important Information to remember

  • The Centre will be closed on Monday, 12th March 2018 due to Labour Day public holiday. There will not be any Pre-Kinder or other activities on that day unless otherwise notified.
  • Our Annual General Meeting will be held in March (Date and Time TBA). We would like to invite all our members to attend as a new Committee of Management will be elected.
  • Term 1 ends on Thursday, 29 March and Term 2 starts on Monday, 16 April.

We are always looking for volunteers to assist with our Activities and Office duties. Do you have any talent or hobby which you would like to share with others and love to meet new friends? Kindly talk to the office staff and we can help you develop your passion.
Do you wish to volunteer your time in any way possible and get involved in our forthcoming events? If so, we would love to hear from you. 


At Oakgrove Community Centre, we always welcome any suggestion/feedback which may lead us to improve our services for the benefit of the Community. Please feel free to drop in your suggestions into the Feedback Box located in the foyer or talk to the staff in the office.
Oakgrove would love to welcome any of you or your friends who might be interested in running new programs/activities like Music, Mosaic, Knitting, Quilting etc.

We welcome back all our families and friends after the term break, we hope you all enjoyed the Winter holidays. It was a pleasure to see the excitement amongst the children as they commenced the new term.

Term 2 was a very exciting and long term filled with many varied activities. Term 3 is proving to be equally busy so please keep your eye on our Website and Facebook page for more updates.
We do have some spots available for Playgroup Monday to Thursday 9.30 to 11.30 am. Children enjoy the sessions with our facilitator Ms. Jennifer Diggines. Please feel free to contact the office for bookings.
